The materials here support CDWs to work effectively with wards, community organisations, families and small and medium enterprise groups on planning, organisational strengthening, governance and business development. These are training courses and processes that CDWs are often expected to facilitate. These courses complement the CDW competency based training approach, but are not directly related to the CDW National Standard. If you choose to use any of these courses please acknowledge their various sources and authors. We would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the excellent work of Mr Takus David, the primary illustrator for the training materials shared on this website. Scroll down this page and you will find downloadable copies of:

Ward Development Planning. In 2016, based on lessons learned, the original Ward Development Planning approach was substantially revised and improved by CARE PNG and the DPLGA. The new approach and manual was endorsed by the DPLGA in 2016. For ease of access and printing the Ward Development Planning handbook downloads have been separated into three parts – the handbook itself and two attachments (Ward Profile, and Ward Plan Proposal)

Family Money Management Training. This training can be used by CDWs to train married couples to work together to manage their money and follow a simple spending plan. This training uses an overarching-metaphor to explain financial literacy in a way that people with limiting education will understand. This training uses a family team approach. It is a good foundation for the organisational strengthening training (below) and the business planning manuals (below). A Microsoft Word copy is available upon request.

Below is Family Money Management training for Bougainville:

Organisational Strengthening Training. These manuals are designed for CDWs to facilitate with ward development committees, community based organisations and associations, and small enterprise groups. They help groups set their priorities, plan, and establish good governance. Feel free to download the PDF copies of the manuals (Microsoft Word copies are available upon request).

Below are organisational strengthening training manuals for Bougainville:

Business Planning Manuals and Forms. Below are manuals that CDWs can use to help small enterprises to research, analyse, prioritise, and complete strong business plans. Also provided below is a CBO business plan form (which can be submitted to any finance organisation or District or NGO), and an example of a completed form (for Betty and Benny’s meri blaus business). This form can also be used as a generic business plan form for the CBOs own use, or that can be submitted to other financial organisations and to Districts. Feel free to download the PDF copies of the manuals (Microsoft Word copies are available upon request).

Farming product specific information to help farmers do market research (Coursebook 1):

Gender Equity and Diversity Training. This is a short training module adapted from the Gender Equity and Diversity (GED) module in CDW Coursebook 1. A Microsoft Word copy is available upon request.
